Fillings

Cavities and tooth decay are some of the most common concerns for patients in our office. Untreated cavities can lead to further damage, which may result in pain, infection, and tooth loss. Dr. Gressell uses tooth-colored, composite resin fillings to restore your tooth’s appearance and structure.

What Are Dental Fillings?

A dental filling is a method of restoring a damaged or decayed tooth to its original shape and function. In this procedure, Dr. Gressell will first remove all the decayed parts of your tooth, disinfect the area to prevent further decay, and then fill the cavity with a filling material. Fillings are customized to match the shade of your surrounding teeth for a seamless look.

What Are the Benefits of Fillings?

  • Stops tooth decay – Once the tooth is filled and sealed, it becomes protected against further decay. Without getting your tooth filled, the decay will worsen and inevitably damage your tooth.
  • Long-lasting – Gold fillings can last between 15 to 30 years, silver amalgam can last from 10 to 15 years, and composite resin needs to be replaced every five to seven years. As long as you take care of your fillings, they should last up to ten years or more.
