What Is Invisalign®?

Invisalign* is a brand name of clear aligners used to straighten crooked teeth. The aligners are made from a versatile thermoplastic material called SmartTrack. Over 14 million people have relied on Invisalign to transform their smiles. These unique invisible trays are so clear that once you put them over your teeth, no one will know you’re wearing them. Patients prefer the inconspicuous design and the comfort of the smooth aligners over the glaring metal wires and rough brackets used for braces.

How Does Invisalign® Work?

The Invisalign system uses three-dimensional computer imaging technology to create a customized treatment plan to move your teeth to their desired positions. The aligners are prepared in a series of sets that should be worn one to two weeks at a time.

When wearing them, you’ll notice that the trays don’t follow the alignment of your teeth. They’re much straighter. It’s designed this way so that your teeth will follow the mold of your aligners. As you wear them weekly, your teeth will progressively shift in small increments until they are perfectly aligned.

You need to return to the office at least once every six weeks so the dentist can check if your teeth are moving according to plan.

What Are the Benefits of Invisalign?

  • Aesthetically pleasing. The top reason why patients prefer Invisalign is because of how inconspicuous they are, especially when you compare them to traditional metal braces.
  • They are removable. The brackets of traditional metal braces are cemented into each tooth, so there’s no way you can remove them. Meanwhile, Invisalign aligners are removable. You can take them out while eating, drinking, or cleaning your teeth.
